The non-invasive HIFEM® procedure induces powerful muscle contractions not achievable through voluntary contractions.
When exposed to strong contractions, the muscle tissue is forced to adapt to such extreme condition. It responds with a deep remodeling of its inner structure that results in muscle building and sculpting your body.
NeoSkin by Aerolase is the perfect anti-aging solution for all ages and all skin types who either want to keep their skin clear and youthful or for those that want to turn back the clock and regain a youthful complexion. This safe, effective, and tolerable treatment is quickly becoming the 'go-to' therapy for patients wanting clear, beautiful skin.
What is NeoSkin?
NeoSkin by Aerolase advances rejuvenation and tightening to new levels by enabling a comprehensive treatment to address tone and texture, redness, pigmentation, laxity, and other unwanted skin structures in a single treatment with a single device. NeoSkin uses 650-microsecond laser energy, which is uniquely attracted to melanin, hemoglobin, and water within the skin to safely, effectively, and tolerably renew the skin’s natural, youthful glow. NeoSkin now accomplishes the results of what used to take numerous treatments and treatment methods.
As skin ages there can be many changes that occur. Skin quality can worsen with enlarged pores, texture, and lax skin. Unwanted conditions such as redness, veins, sun damage, and age spots may show up. Acne may follow through adulthood. Whether you are looking to restore your clear, youthful skin or prevent signs of aging, NeoSkin can help achieve your skin goals. NeoSkin will leave your skin looking clear and radiant.
How Does it Work?
NeoSkin’s 650-microsecond energy targets water in the dermis to stimulate collagen production, which reduces fine lines, pores, and tightens skin. Then, if present, NeoSkin targets melanin and hemoglobin to clear brown pigment, clear vascular lesions, and suppress inflammation. This NeoSkin treatment is a quick, tailored treatment to address each patient’s specific needs with no downtime.
NeoSkin treatments typically take 20-60 minutes depending on what conditions need to be addressed and how large the treatment area is (face, neck, chest). Treatment is highly safe, effective, and tolerable for all skin types and may be performed without any skin cooling, anesthetic, and even without the need to touch the skin.
I have dark skin, am I a candidate?
The NeoSkin rejuvenation treatment is effective, safe, and gentle for patients of all ages and skin types, and for all parts of the body. Have skin of color? No worries. The NeoSkin treatment can be performed on all skin types, at anytime, keeping your skin clear and refreshed all year long. NeoSkin uses a new laser technology, referred to as 650 Microsecond Technology™, that is ideal for anyone dealing with signs of skin aging.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
The number of treatments needed varies from person to person depending on wants, needs, and the degree to which skin aging has occurred. For most patients, it is recommended that they undergo a treatment course of 4-6 sessions. Once the results you want have been achieved, subsequent sessions may be needed to maintain the results. Skin aging is an ongoing process. Fortunately, the treatment can be performed whenever your skin needs rejuvenation.

As you age, your skin develops wrinkles, blemishes, scars, and other telltale imperfections. Luminary MD in Irvine, California, offers several treatments using platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to restore your youthful glow with proteins from your own body. If you’d like to achieve a younger look without surgery or fillers, call or schedule a consultation online with Robert Milanes, MD, to find out more about PRP treatments today.
Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is derived from your own blood. Platelets are the component of your blood that allows it to clot and heal your wounds, and they’re derived and concentrated to create PRP.
PRP contains growth factors that promote regeneration and youthfulness when applied to your skin. It can also promote hair growth in bald spots. If you have injuries, PRP helps to speed up the healing process.
What can PRP treat?
PRP can treat a variety of conditions and unwanted features, most of which come with age. These include:
- Wrinkles and lines
- Hair Loss
- Sun damage
- Urinary incontinence
- Vaginal dryness
- Stretch marks
During an initial consultation, Dr. Milanes assesses your goals, needs, and habits to determine if PRP treatments are your best option. Then, he works with you to choose which treatment can be most effective for you.
What treatments can I get using PRP?
Luminary MD offers several treatments that use PRP to achieve optimal results. You can choose:
Microneedling is a procedure used to reduce the appearance of scars, acne, wrinkles, and other skin conditions.
During the procedure, tiny needles prick your skin with minimal discomfort. Each prick stimulates the production of collagen, a protein produced by your body to give your skin structure, vivacity, and elasticity.
Vampire facials, also known as PRP facials, involve microneedling coupled with PRP derived from your own blood. After the microneedling, Dr. Milanes spreads the PRP across your face to promote a youthful complexion and fresh, healthy cells.
The O Shot™, also known as the orgasm shot, uses extracted PRP that Dr. Milanes injects into your vaginal area. It can treat urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, pain during sex, and other vaginal issues.
Platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) treatments restore volume to a sunken face and fill the lines and wrinkles that come with age. PRFM contains a higher volume of platelets than regular PRP.
How does PRP therapy work for hair restoration?
PRP can be used to treat hair loss or baldness. After your blood is drawn and the PRP is extracted from it, your provider injects it into the areas of your scalp that lack hair. The PRP restores blood flow to your follicles, encouraging them to supply your hair with nutrients and promote its growth. PRP works best for hair loss when combined with other hair restoration treatments.

What is IV therapy?
IV therapy is a method of getting the nutrients you need the most into your body quickly. During IV therapy, Dr. Milanes connects an IV bag full of vitamins and nutrients to your arm.
There are several types of IV therapies, each with a particular set of symptoms it can best remedy.
What are the benefits of IV therapy?
IV therapy has a surprisingly long list of potential benefits. The effectiveness may vary from person to person, but you’re likely to get some benefit from the high concentration of vitamins being administered all at once.
Benefits of IV therapy include:
- Pain relief
- Headache relief
- Mood improvement
- Insomnia relief
- Energy boost
- Glowing skin
After an IV therapy appointment, you’ll likely feel energized and ready to take on the day. The effects you notice typically last for 2-4 days, but the vitamins stay in your system for several weeks.
Whether you need a boost in energy, immunity, or motivation, Luminary MD has an IV drip to pick you up.
Acne is a normal part of life, but severe or persistent acne can hinder your self-confidence or become painfully irritated. Luminary MD in Irvine, California, offers top-of-the-line laser acne treatments to help you feel at home in your own skin again. If acne is keeping you from feeling confident and looking your best, call or schedule an appointment online with Robert Milanes, MD, to find out if laser acne treatment is right for you.
What is acne?
Acne, pimples, zits: The condition comes with many names and forms, all of which are caused by oil, bacteria, and dead skin cells that get trapped in your pores and manifest as red bumps, whiteheads, and blackheads.
Acne can appear on any part of your body, but it’s most common on the face, back, and chest. While most people think of acne as an inconvenience of their teenage years, it can flare up in adulthood, too.
Acne can appear as a result of stress, hormonal changes (like puberty), wearing greasy makeup, or taking certain medications.
How does laser acne treatment work?
Remarkably, laser treatments can help even the most serious cases of acne. Sometimes, simply washing your face isn’t enough to defeat hormonal or genetic cases of acne, and a laser is aggressive enough to reduce or eliminate redness and scarring.
Luminary MD offers acne treatment with the Lightpod Neo™ laser, which targets and kills the bacteria that cause severe acne. It also promotes the production of collagen, a regenerative protein in your skin that gives it structure.
Even if you don’t have an active case of acne, laser acne treatments can reduce the appearance of leftover acne scars from your youth.
While lasers are generally effective in reducing acne, the results vary from person to person and it can take some time to see the full results.
Is laser acne treatment safe?
Laser acne treatment is generally considered safe, but you might experience a few side effects following a session. These include:
- A burning or stinging sensation
- Skin color changes
If your side effects are severe or last beyond a day after your treatment, call Dr. Milanes as soon as possible. Your chances of negative side effects can be decreased by following his instructions for aftercare closely and staying out of the sunlight.
If your acne or scars from it won’t go away with rigorous skin care, you may benefit from laser acne treatment. Call or schedule an appointment online at Luminary MD to find out if laser acne treatments can help you.
Botox & Fillers
While some people wear their wrinkles, lines, and other signs of aging with pride, others prefer a more youthful look. Botox® and fillers, offered by Robert Milanes, MD, at Luminary MD in Irvine, California, allow you to achieve smooth skin, plump lips, and full cheeks. If you’re interested in learning more about how Botox and fillers can make you appear younger without looking unnatural or robotic, call or schedule a consultation online today.
Botox is an injectable drug that paralyzes your muscles. You can use it as a medical treatment for conditions like an overactive bladder or for migraines, but it’s most often used to relax the muscles in your face that cause wrinkles as you age.
Botox can fix:
- Crow’s feet
- Smile lines
- Uncontrollable blinking
- Forehead lines
The results of Botox are temporary, so you need to come back for regular appointments to maintain the appearance you want.
What are fillers?
Fillers, like Botox, are injected to alter the appearance of your face. You can use fillers to plump your lips and cheeks or add volume to other parts of your face to reduce lines and wrinkles.
As you age, your face tends to become more sunken. Fillers can correct this, or they can give you plumper lips.
Luminary MD also offers Kybella®, an injection that decreases the fat beneath your chin. While it isn’t considered a filler (it actually does the opposite of what fillers do), it’s an injectable aesthetic treatment option that can improve your appearance as you age.
Am I a good candidate for Botox, fillers, or Kybella?
Nearly anyone can be a good candidate for aesthetic injections like Botox, fillers, or Kybella. If your overall health is good, you likely can qualify for these treatments.
If you’re unsure which treatment would suit your needs the most, Dr. Milanes can talk you through the options and assess your needs to determine which one would yield your desired results.
Are Botox and fillers safe?
When used correctly by a trained physician, Botox and fillers are perfectly safe. Side effects are rare but possible, including:
- Asymmetrical results
- Skin discoloration
Most side effects are temporary and only last about 1-2 days. If the treatment is injected incorrectly, you may experience much more severe symptoms or infection. Thankfully, this is extremely rare. If you experience severe or long-lasting side effects, call Dr. Milanes at your earliest convenience.
If you find yourself longing for a younger-looking face, call the office or schedule an appointment online with Dr. Milanes at Luminary MD today.
Medical Weight Loss
Do you feel like you’ve tried every diet and exercise plan to lose weight with no results? Robert Milanes, MD, at Luminary MD in Irvine, California, can assist you in forming a personalized medical weight-loss plan that’s sure to help you drop the weight and keep it off permanently. Dr. Milanes supervises you as you take part in your medical weight-loss plan to ensure you are getting the most out of it. If you’re looking for a weight-loss plan that works, call or schedule an appointment online at Luminary MD to learn more about medical weight loss.
Medical weight loss is a method of losing weight supervised by a physician. At Luminary MD, Dr. Milanes assesses your lifestyle, goals, and overall health to form a personalized weight-loss plan for you that may involve a fitness plan, diet, medications, and supplements.
Medical weight loss is more effective than simply following a fad diet because it aims for long-term effectiveness. Not only do you lose the weight, but you’re also unlikely to gain it back.
What might be included in my medical weight-loss plan?
Medical weight-loss plans involve several different methods that work together to help you lose the weight permanently. Your medical weight-loss plan may involve:
There are several types of medications that can assist you in losing weight. Dr. Milanes may prescribe you with an appetite suppressant, a medication to control any medical cause of your weight, or other medication to target a cause of your weight.
- QSYMIA- PHENTERMINE ANDTOPIRAMATE For patients with a body mass index of 30 or greater in the presence of at least one weight-related medical condition. Lose weight 3 times faster by controlling your appetite and cravings.
- CONTRAVE- NALTREXONE HCI/BUPROPION HCL This medication also helps appetite and craving control.
- BELVIQ- LORCASERIN Taken once or twice a day to help you feel fuller sooner.
Dr. Milanes may recommend supplements to ensure you’re getting all of the necessary nutrients. They can also help to speed your metabolism so you get the most out of your prescribed diet.
ProLon is a plant-based diet program that lasts for five days. It mimics fasting and promotes cell health while allowing you to continue eating and getting necessary nutrients. You’re likely to drop a few pounds after the five days of eating ProLon meals.
METHIONINE AND INOSITOL: Helps the liver remove fat
CHOLINE: Distributes cholesterol and prevents it from getting deposited in one part of the body
CYANOCOBALAMIN -VITAMIN B12: This vitamin has many benefits including increased energy and increasing your metabolic rate by burning stored body fat. Also regulates sleep, mood, & appetite.
L-CARNITINE: Carnitine is an amino acid which is required for the transport and breakdown of body fat for the generation of metabolic energy and fatigue reduction. Helps decrease fat while preserving muscle during exercise.
Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a hormone produced during pregnancy and is said to “reset” your metabolism. With an hCG diet, you’re restricted to about 500 calories a day while visiting Luminary MD for injections of hCG.
Luminary MD has partnerships with local gyms, personal trainers, and food delivery services to help you stick to your fitness and diet plan.
Is medical weight loss safe?
While many weight-loss plans aren’t safe for everyone, medical weight loss has the added benefit of being formed and supervised by a doctor.
Before creating your treatment plan, Dr. Milanes takes your medical history and assesses your goals for the program. If he finds you aren’t getting results, he changes your plan accordingly.
Medical weight loss is intended for patients who have a high BMI: those with a BMI of 30 or higher benefit the most. However, anyone who wants long-term weight control can benefit from taking part in a medical weight-loss program.
Low levels of certain vitamins in your system can leave you feeling fatigued, faint, or even depressed. If you’re experiencing these symptoms or just feeling “off,” Robert Milanes, MD, at Luminary MD in Irvine, California, may prescribe a vitamin injection to get you back on track and feeling like yourself again. If you feel like you need a pick-me-up, call or schedule an appointment online at Luminary MD to find out if a vitamin injection can help you.
Vitamin injections are physician-administered shots that deliver high amounts of necessary vitamins directly to your bloodstream. Vitamin B12 shots are the main form of vitamin injection.
Vitamin B12 is essential in assisting your body in processing carbs and fats from the foods you eat. It’s also a key part of your body’s creation of proteins, including DNA.
In order to get a vitamin injection, you need to have a prescription. It’s unlikely -- but possible -- to overdose from a vitamin injection, so it’s important to carefully follow Dr. Milanes’ instructions and get your injections when they’re scheduled.
It’s also important to note that you shouldn’t use vitamin injections as a regular substitute for the vitamins that you get from your diet.
What can vitamin injections fix?
Vitamin injections compensate for vitamin deficiencies. You might be deficient in a certain vitamin if you don’t get enough of it in your diet or with supplements.
Vitamin deficiencies can appear with a variety of symptoms, including:
- Mouth ulcers
- Vision decline
- A swollen tongue
- Pins and needles sensations
If you experience these or other unexplained symptoms, Dr. Milanes examines you and asks about your diet and medical history to determine if low vitamins are at fault. Then, he may prescribe you with vitamin injections to boost your levels.
People with certain diseases and conditions, such as Crohn’s disease, anemia, or diabetes, can benefit from regular vitamin injections as part of their treatment.
What are the side effects of vitamin injections?
While they have many benefits, vitamin injections also have several possible side effects. These include:
- Pain or soreness at the injection site
If you have any side effects that worsen, you need to contact Dr. Milanes as soon as possible. If you experience worse, yet rare, symptoms like muscle cramps, weakness, or an abnormal heartbeat, you should seek medical treatment immediately.
Vitamin deficiencies are difficult to identify without the help of your doctor. If you’re experiencing unexplained symptoms, call or schedule an appointment online at Luminary MD to find out if you could benefit from vitamin injections.
Laser Hair Removal
Razor burns, cuts, and painful waxing mishaps can all be hair-removal problems of the past if you opt for laser hair removal. Luminary MD in Irvine, California, offers laser hair removal services that allow you to enjoy long-term hairlessness without having to shave several times a week or go to regular, dreaded waxing appointments. If you’d like a noticeable reduction in body hair, call or schedule an appointment online with Robert Milanes, MD, today to learn more about laser hair removal.
This hair removal method uses a laser to target and destroy follicles, the tiny sacs in your skin that hold your hairs and help them grow. The laser, or high-powered light, damages the follicles and inhibits hair growth. The effects are long-lasting, but they aren’t entirely permanent, so you need to return for maintenance appointments.
Luminary MD offers laser hair removal treatments with the Lightpod Neo™ laser, a safe and gentle laser that works faster than others like it. It’s also painless, eliminating the need for numbing gels and anesthetics.
What are the benefits of choosing laser hair removal?
There are many benefits to choosing laser hair removal over shaving and waxing. The benefits include:
- Long-lasting results
- Cost-effectiveness in the long term
- Low maintenance
- Versatility (You can get it anywhere on your body.)
Additionally, Dr. Milanes can perform laser hair removal on large areas of your body all at once. Even though you likely need multiple sessions, each session is fast enough for you to do it on your lunch break.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Laser hair removal is generally safe, but it comes with a couple of potential side effects. Possible risks include:
- Discomfort during the procedure
- Skin irritation
- Skin color changes
- Skin texture change
The side effects of laser hair removal are usually temporary, subsiding after a day or so after your session.
You can reduce your chances of experiencing negative side effects by carefully following Dr. Milanes’ instructions for preparation and aftercare. If you experience severe side effects like blistering or a change in your skin texture, call Luminary MD immediately.
Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?
With the latest laser technologies, laser hair removal can work for anyone. Generally, however, it is most effective on patients whose hair is a darker color than their skin. This is because the laser works by targeting the pigments, or colors, in your hair.
If you have any skin disorders or take certain medications, Dr. Milanes may recommend you choose another method of hair removal to avoid skin irritation or rashes.
If you want to enjoy a smooth, hairless look without constantly buying razors and waxes, call or schedule a laser hair removal consultation online at Luminary MD today.
Primary Care Specialist
Even in this day of one-stop urgent care, it’s still important to see a provider who knows you and is familiar with your medical history. At Luminary MD, Robert Milanes, MD, offers primary care to patients throughout the Orange County area in Irvine, California, for health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment of acute chronic illnesses. Dr. Milanes and his team at Luminary MD are proud to become active partners in their patients’ healthcare. If you’re looking to schedule your next primary care appointment, call the office today or request your visit online.
Primary care is health care provided by a medical professional who sees you routinely regarding your overall health. Different than a specialist who may focus only on your heart or your kidneys, your provider is a generalist who may treat your diabetes, prescribe your blood pressure medication, give you an annual physical exam, and disease prevention.
Your provider will also refer you to a specialist if they feel conditions, such as your diabetes or kidney disorder, need some fine tuning. Physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners who you see regularly for your general medical care are all considered primary care providers.
What are the benefits of primary care?
One goal of your provider is to become familiar with the intricacies of your health and wellbeing. When you come as a new patient with a preexisting condition, your provider will evaluate your previous history carefully.
For instance, he may want to check some labs to clarify how well your blood sugar is managed if you’re a diabetic, or whether your cholesterol level is responding to the medication you started a few months ago. This prevents your health care from “slipping through the cracks” and helps spot early warning signs that your medical conditions might be worsening or you may be developing new issues.
Once you’re an established patient, your provider acts as your healthcare manager or supervisor. Your provider will expect to see you routinely for physical exams and rechecks regarding known conditions. If you need further care by a specialist, he’ll sort out what kind of specialist you need and help facilitate those visits.
When should I see my primary care provider?
Beyond regularly scheduled follow-up care for known medical conditions or annual exams, patients should think of seeing their provider before going to an urgent care clinic or the emergency department, unless the illness is causing severe symptoms, or you have concerns that your life is at risk.
Luminary MD encourages you to contact your provider to schedule your primary care visit — sometimes called a sick visit — when you have symptoms such as:
- A cough that won’t go away
- A persistent or high fever
- Pain in an uninjured part of the body
- Blood in the urine
- Difficulty breathing caused by congestion
If you’re experiencing any illness symptoms, call Luminary MD in Irvine, California or request a visit online to schedule your primary care appointment.
Men's Health Specialist
Learn more about how we treat men's health by reading below.
As men age, there is a natural decline of testosterone that leads to their own type of menopause called Andropause also known as Male Menopause. Until the age of 30, testosterone levels remain constant in men but after these level decrease. This decrease is gradual and the symptom onset is less noticeable. The decline of testosterone leads to the decline in male health leading to increased body fat, weight gain, depression and a decrease of lean muscle mass, strength, bone mass and sexual function. It has been shown that testosterone helps combat these changes while also lowering insulin resistance and decreasing LDL and total cholesterol.
In contrast to the female counterpart, Andropause occurs gradually and is less obvious. Some of the first signs of andropause include:
- Downward shift in strength and energy
- Loss of Sex Drive
- Loss of enthusiasm for work and competition
Not only is testosterone lowered naturally, it also gets impacted by excessive stress, weight gain and lack of exercise.
In addition to a decrease of testosterone, as men age, estrogen (estradiol) levels start to balance of sometimes increase relative to testosterone with estrogen eventually becoming the more dominant hormone. Luteinizing Hormone, a pituitary hormone which stimulates testosterone production is also decreased by estrogen.
What is Testosterone?
Testosterone is an essential sex hormone that plays an important role in both men and women. Testosterone is essential for regulating the immune system, creating energy, mental sharpness, increasing strength and regulating sex drive. Testosterone gives men deeper voices, large muscles & increased hair. Testosterone aids in sperm production, libido control and normal erections.
Signs and Symptoms of Low Testosterone (less than 600 ng/dl)
- Low libido
- Weight Gain
- Erectile dysfunction
- Weight Gain
- Decreased Strength
- Loss of Muscle
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Sleep disturbances
- Adverse changes of cholesterol
The symptoms of androgen deficiency and low testosterone levels are used to establish the diagnosis of hypogonadism.
Why Treat Low Testosterone (Andropause)
Testosterone replacement therapy has been shown to drastically improve quality of life. The goal is to treat the signs of symptoms associated with low testosterone and place the body in physiologic balance. Studies have shown that testosterone optimization therapy improves libido, mood, cognition, muscle mass, & bone density.
Luminary MD Hormone Optimization Program
