Botox & Fillers

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable drug that paralyzes your muscles. You can use it as a medical treatment for conditions like an overactive bladder or for migraines, but it’s most often used to relax the muscles in your face that cause wrinkles as you age.

Botox can fix:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile lines
  • Uncontrollable blinking
  • Forehead lines

The results of Botox are temporary, so you need to come back for regular appointments to maintain the appearance you want.

What are fillers?

Fillers, like Botox, are injected to alter the appearance of your face. You can use fillers to plump your lips and cheeks or add volume to other parts of your face to reduce lines and wrinkles.

As you age, your face tends to become more sunken. Fillers can correct this, or they can give you plumper lips.

Luminary MD also offers Kybella®, an injection that decreases the fat beneath your chin. While it isn’t considered a filler (it actually does the opposite of what fillers do), it’s an injectable aesthetic treatment option that can improve your appearance as you age.

Am I a good candidate for Botox, fillers, or Kybella?

Nearly anyone can be a good candidate for aesthetic injections like Botox, fillers, or Kybella. If your overall health is good, you likely can qualify for these treatments.

If you’re unsure which treatment would suit your needs the most, Dr. Milanes can talk you through the options and assess your needs to determine which one would yield your desired results.

Are Botox and fillers safe?

When used correctly by a trained physician, Botox and fillers are perfectly safe. Side effects are rare but possible, including:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Asymmetrical results
  • Bruising
  • Skin discoloration

Most side effects are temporary and only last about 1-2 days. If the treatment is injected incorrectly, you may experience much more severe symptoms or infection. Thankfully, this is extremely rare. If you experience severe or long-lasting side effects, call Dr. Milanes at your earliest convenience.

If you find yourself longing for a younger-looking face, call the office or schedule an appointment online with Dr. Milanes at Luminary MD today.
